The ASA Southern Division was an uncharted
water for the Georgia Control Center Chevrolet
until April 19th when Chris Dilbeck and the #8
Chastain Race Engine powered late model showed
some muscle in the early going of the Georgia
Showdown 100 at Senoia Raceway.
Chris qualified in the eighth position with only
twelve hundredths of a second separating him from
the polesitter, Bubba Pollard. Thanks to an
inversion rule of the ASA series, Pollard rolled the
dice and nine cars were inverted. Chris' new
starting position was now on the outside of the
second row.
With the drop of the green flag Dilbeck quickly
moved to the front by leading the first lap as it
seemed he would have no problem contending for
the win until contact took place between Chris and
Travis Cope turning Chris around and sending
both drivers to the rear of the field.
Chris then worked quickly to advance his way back
into the top ten before the left rear shock failed
forcing the GCC chevy to an 18th place finish.
The next race for the Chastain Race Engines team
is the Georgia Asphalt Series 100 at Peach State
Speedway on May 3rd where Chris hopes to carry
on the strength shown early in his ASA debut.
